Yes, the internet is both the greatest and worst thing to happen to small or large Independent Country Music Artists.
The Greatest - in that it is an excellent medium to share with and sell "Direct-To-The-Public" the music and merchandise the "Indie" Country Music Artist creates. As the internet has very low overheads there is a maximizing of dollars in the pocket of the Independent Country Music Artist. At the same time the internet is the Worst Thing - due to the very nature of the internet it is so easy for people to share the music one person may purchase with one-million other people... for FREE. The fans in their quest to get FREE or cheap music are thereby cheating the exact person they love to listen to out of many hard earned dollars.
Ultimately this forces the small Independent Country Music Artist to leave the Country Music industry forever - taking with them their future input into Country Music history and YOUR future Country Music too.
Any way you look at it, it's not financially viable when hard earned dollars are being "innocently and thoughtlessly" - or otherwise - stolen. Even a large Independent Country Music Artist cannot live on love alone! The fact is, costs of writing and recording - although cheap compared to the "old days" last century - and then living costs on top DO require a decent income - like any workers wage. And then there's all the other costs... need I go on?
So what is the answer when the internet is here to stay?
Well there is no one or easy answer to blatant "theft" (file sharing) BUT we do have a WIN, WIN solution to "coax" the "file sharing thieves" to the "other side" - so to speak - and to help YOU make money helping the Independent Country Music Artists make money to continue on. So if an unsigned Independent Country Music Artist can make a whopping 50% of his sales in profit, into his own pocket, he is WAY AHEAD of the pack. Sure he still has other costs of recording etc. to cover but he can now afford to "GIVE AWAY" some of the profits to YOU for increased sales. See how it works?
So, what if YOU - as a fan of your favorite Independent Country Music Artist - could sell their music for them, legally, and take home 40% of the profits? It's not like you're selling something you don't like or believe in. Heck you may even become great friends with your favorite Country Music artist just because you're selling the most of his/her music or merchandise or both.
